Inzaghi says anything can happen after Inter take Scudetto race to the wire

Simone Inzaghi said Inter still believe they can retain the Scudetto after Lautaro Martinez s brace helped the Nerazzurri beat Cagliari and take the Serie A title race to the wire.

After watching Milan beat Atalanta 2-0 at San Siro, the Nerazzurri had to win in Sardinia to avoid ceding their domestic crown to their rivals, but Martinez followed up Matteo Darmian s opener with a second-half double as Inter claimed a hard-fought 3-1 win to keep their hopes intact.

Inter have now won seven of their past eight league games, but must beat Sampdoria and hope Sassuolo defeat the Rossoneri on the final day to win their 20th top-flight title.

Inzaghi won one Serie A title during his playing career, scoring when Sven Goran Eriksson s Lazio claimed a dramatic title triumph …

Guardiola lauds ´exceptional´ David Luiz and Arteta´s Arsenal transformation

Pep Guardiola has labelled the much-maligned David Luiz an exceptional player ahead of Manchester City s FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal.

City have won seven matches in succession against the Gunners, a run that stretches back to the same stage of this competition three years ago.

The last of those was a 3-0 Premier League triumph at the Etihad Stadium last month – a game perhaps most notable for David Luiz s nightmare individual outing.

Introduced as a replacement for the injured Pablo Mari during the first half, the Brazil international misjudged Kevin De Bruyne s searching pass for Raheem Sterling s opening goal.

David Luiz then pulled back Riyad Mahrez to be sent off and give De Bruyne the chance to double City s lead from the penalty spot – one…

AC Milan make Ibrahimovic offer

According to a recent report from Sky Italy, AC Milan have put forward an offer to try and sign LA Galaxy forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swede has been heavily linked with a move back to Milan as he prepares for the expiration of his contract with Galaxy next month. The club want to bring Zlatan in for him to train with the team in December, ensuring that he’ll be fit and ready to go by the time that the January transfer window officially rolls around.

Milan officials are set to meet with Ibrahimovic’s agent next week, although at this moment in time, Zlatan’s demands are believed to be too high for AC to even consider proceeding with the negotiations.

Napoli and Bologna have both also made it clear that they want to put some kind of offer forward, but no …

Dier thankful to Conte and hopes England recall ´is just a starting point´

Eric Dier has thanked Antonio Conte and his Tottenham team-mates for helping him earn a recall to the England squad, which he hopes is just a starting point .

Spurs defender Dier has been called up by Gareth Southgate for the upcoming Nations League matches with Italy and Germany.

The most recent of his 45 caps came in November 2020, but an upturn in form at club level has Dier in contention for a World Cup spot.

Dier s improved performances have coincided with the appointment of Conte last November, and the 28-year-old is confident he can continue his upward trajectory.

I am just looking forward to going and I think as my manager [Conte] said during the week, for me it is my ambition for this just to be a starting point for me, he said.

Inter 1-2 Barcelona: Fati makes history as Nerazzurri drop into Europa League

Inter failed to get beyond the Champions League group stage for a second successive season after losing 2-1 at home to Barcelona, with Ansu Fati s late winner making him the youngest scorer in the competition s history.

The Serie A leaders needed to at least match Borussia Dortmund s result against Slavia Prague due to being level on seven points before the game, but the Germans emerged 2-1 victors to secure their progression as Inter were left to regret their own wasteful finishing.

After weathering an early Inter storm, a much-changed Barca went ahead through fringe forward Carles Perez, though their lead did not last – Romelu Lukaku blasting in from 20 yards.

Lukaku was otherwise wasteful in front of goal, however, missing a particularly fine opportunity…

Verratti to miss PSG trip to Nice

Paris Saint-Germain will be without Marco Verratti for Saturday s trip to Nice due to a hamstring injury.

The Italy international was notably absent during Friday s training session, which was being watched closely by president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and football advisor Luis Campos.

PSG subsequently confirmed Verratti has been struggling with a hamstring strain that required him to stay inside for treatment.

While the club did not give much of an outline about the injury s severity, they did state more information will be provided early next week.

As such, Verratti will seemingly be unable to feature for Christophe Galtier on Saturday as PSG look to end a slump against the coach s former employers.

Even with Messi and Neymar, PSG ´will go backwards´ if Mbappe leaves

Paris Saint-Germain will go backwards if Kylian Mbappe leaves for free, according to former midfielder Jerome Rothen.

Mbappe s contract is due to expire at the end of the season and he has been heavily linked with a free transfer to Real Madrid, whose president Florentino Perez this month said he would have news about the 22-year-old in January.

The World Cup-winning attacker has scored 138 goals and supplied 62 assists in 184 appearances since joining PSG in 2017, developing into one of the most exciting talents in world football.

He scored the opening goal in the 3-2 Champions League win over RB Leipzig on Tuesday but blazed a penalty over in second-half stoppage time following a Lionel Messi double.

Still, Rothen believes it is Mbappe, not Messi …

Conte to Roma?

According to a recent report from Calciomercato, Antonio Conte is top of Roma’s wish list if Jose Mourinho leaves to join Paris Saint-Germain.

While we’re only at the rumour stage right now, claims have been made that Jose Mourinho could make his way over to French football to join PSG. The Portuguese boss has had a solid run with Roma thus far, with the main highlight being their Conference League triumph last season.

If he does leave, it would seemingly open the door for Conte to make his return to Italian football following his unsuccessful stint with Tottenham Hotspur.

Conte last managed in Serie A when he was in charge at Inter Milan, helping them to win the title in 2021.

It s not uncommon for these two managers, in particular, to make big move…
